Personal Statement

I am a drummer, who is currently studying Music Vocational Level 3. I first gained an interest in the instrument when, at the age of 11, I went to my first metal concert. I then began drumming lessons, which inspired me to get my first kit at the age of 12. From there, I continued to build my practical and theory skills, that have helped me to become the musician that I am today.

While in Primary school, I took part in the choir for four years, which included performing twice at The Liverpool Echo Arena, alongside multiple other schools. Then, while in high

school, I attended musical theatre for three years, which involved me singing for various school masses, I also attended a choir, which I attended for two years. I also was part of a chaplaincy team for three years, which involved visiting Liverpool Catholic Cathedral on two occasions. I then continued to take my interest in music to my GCSE's, in which I created multiple compositions, and performed solo, and in an ensemble. I finished this obtaining a grade 8 in Music.

I then decided to take my love for Music, to college, where I began my Level 3 course, taking part in various Projects, all which involved a final performance in a different setting. Some of these include: creating a risk assessment to be more aware when setting up equipment, writing, recording and mixing an original piece, taking the job as a Roadie by setting up equipment in various locations, a solo performance, and for the final Project, creating a unique theme, and choosing songs that relate to the given theme. Taking part in a solo performance allowed me to focus on my own instrument, rather than a band. Through this, I gained confidence, and determination to improve my instrument. Alongside the performance work, I took an interest in the theory aspect of the course, specifically, creating documentaries, as they allowed me to input my research in a creative way. Also, I enjoy documenting my weekly rehearsals, as it ensures organization within my work. Through the first two projects, I received a pass grade, but as I have built my confidence and knowledge, I began getting consistent distinctions. In college I have currently performed in the college playhouse, the studio that my class rehearses in every Tuesday, multiple schools around the area and the Philharmonic music room. I have developed a variety of skills throughout the course, including: the ability to communicate well with those I work with and independently producing research, such as case studies, essays and presentations. I also ensure that I complete assignments before the deadline.

I currently work in the catering team for Gulliver's World, and have experience in serving

customers. I make food, drinks, and ultimately ensure customer satisfaction. I clean my unit at various points in the day, to ensure hygiene and cleanliness. I enjoy working in a team and providing help to those around me. I have been employed since 17th July 2023, and have worked in various parts of the park, experiencing new aspects of the job.

I enjoy listening to metal music, such as Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold and System of a Down, in which all the drummers have had an impact on my love for music. They have each inspired me to build as a drummer, and to challenge myself further, motivating me to perform on stage. However, after studying music, I have become more fond of other music genres such as: Jazz, Punk, Prog. Learning about new music allows me to appreciate more genres, which made me more open minded than previously.

For University, I aspire to build my knowledge within the music industry, to prepare me to improve my skills for the job that I intend on partaking in the future. It will help me build the skills that are required to further continue on my music journey. I am particularly interested in the performance aspect of music, as this is an area I have thrived in throughout my time as a musician.
